First Tee Scholars Program Helps Junior Members Pay for College

A leading management consulting and information technology (IT) firm with offices in the US and Nigeria, Ascellon Corporation provides program management, healthcare, and IT solutions to a variety of companies. Ascellon Corporation also supports a number of charitable organizations, including The First Tee, an international youth development group that introduces the game of golf and its intrinsic values to young people.

The First Tee Scholars Program rewards junior golfers for their academic achievements and accomplishments in leadership, character development, and community involvement. Established in 2003, the program has distributed over $1 million in college scholarships.

Components of the application include two essays, copies of official test scores, and high school transcripts. In addition, applicants must submit a school and community activities chart that showcases their leadership skills. The final component is a participation survey completed by a First Tee staff member regarding the applicant’s involvement with their local chapter.

In addition to its Scholars Program, First Tee also offers Named Scholarship funds that are distributed in honor of an individual or through the donations of a corporation or individual sponsor. Most of these scholarships are worth approximately $2,500 per year and may be renewed for up to four years.
